“But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.” —Matthew 19:26

Highly respected and greatly used of God veteran missionary Don Sisk went home to be with the Lord this past Monday. He joins his beloved wife Virginia and many whom he led to Christ through the years. He was 93.

God blessed us with the opportunity to have him preach our missions conference here at Shining Light a number of times. We also got to give the gospel together in homes and see people trust Christ as Saviour. Here are some things I wrote down he said when he was with us:

  • “Tithing is a debt I owe. Faith Promise is a seed I sow.”
  • “If you could see what God is doing with what you're giving, I'm convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that you would want to give Him more!”
  • “I think my days of ministry are just about over. They tell me I should listen to my doctors who are saying that I need to stop or slow down. But I told them that quit is not in my dictionary.”
  • He prayed, “What a beautiful day for people to go to church. Help people to see that.”
  • “We love you Lord and just want to glorify you.”

Ever gracious and grateful, he challenged me to pray for and help train more missionaries. He stated, “In 2023, only 2% of graduates from Independent Baptist colleges went to the mission field. Something must change.” He urged us preachers to help make sure we emphasize missions at the annual Southwide Independent Baptist Fellowship meeting.

His Bible preaching was filled with conviction and compassion. He exhorted us:

  • “Don’t leave God out of the equation.
  • Don’t underestimate what God can do.
  • Don’t limit God.”

There is nothing too hard for God - all things are possible. Let’s ask God to do the impossible with our lives while it is yet day for us. The night is coming when we can work no more.

Dr. Don Sisk was a joyful and fruitful Christian who finished well. He was a true friend to so many. We loved having him in our home. Some of his last words to me were, “You’re a good friend Bro. Tim. Thank you for all you’ve done for me.”

God help us to finish well, and be grateful for the godly influence of faithful friends along the way.

Til we meet again Doc,

Tim Cruse

A Rope of Hope

“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.” —Revelation 14:13
