“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.” Romans‬ ‭13‬:‭1‬ ‭

God ordained and entrusted authority to the home, the church and the government. This is the reason we are a God, family and country church and school here at Shining Light.

The pursuit of individual and religious liberty is ultimately what made America. Together on the 250th Anniversary of our founding, we thank those who have paved the way through their blood, sweat and tears for the freedoms we celebrate today.

Here is a declaration I wrote a few years ago:

I Still Believe

As a Christian and a citizen of the United States of America, I still believe that:

• A majority of Americans are God-respecting and freedom-loving people.

• Freedom isn’t free and we owe a great debt of respect to those who died under the banner of our flag so we can live with the liberties we enjoy - “we kneel before God and stand for the flag.”

• There are moral absolutes that cannot be changed by man.

• God created us male and female, ordained marriage between a man and a woman, and any attempt to sexually confuse or mutilate children is evil.

• An injustice cannot be corrected by another injustice - “an injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere.”

• Our police officers as a whole are honorable and respectable public servants who put their lives on the line daily for our safety and freedom, and that they and their families do not need to be defunded, but defended.

• Individual soul liberty means that we all are free to believe as we choose and that we cannot force faith or our opinion on someone else.

• We have a right to peaceably assemble, and to our opinions; and that my right to protest stops where your nose and property begin.

• Every individual has a right to defend himself or herself as well as their personal belongings.

• It is an injustice to create government-granted rights at the expense of taking already established God-given rights from others.

• When you leave God out of society, there will be those who try to take His place through government, and become judge and executioner of all who express any thought or belief different from their’s.

• When you put yourself in the place of God, you become the final authority in finding fault and cancelling people (or your country) over their faults (and by the way, we all have faults for all have sinned).

• People who are self-righteous do not embrace grace and forgiveness as they seek vengeance instead of justice upon others (and their country) while proclaiming there is no redeeming value there.

• America is the greatest country on the face of the earth and our ideals of life (which begins at conception), liberty and the pursuit of happiness are timeless and priceless.

• Our country does not need to be torn down and built back in the image of fallen man, but that we must continue to correct our errors as we strive toward a more perfect union.

• If you tear down and destroy your free country in the name of redeeming it, you will not replace it with true liberty and justice, but with tyranny and the failed experiments of history such as socialism, Marxism and communism.

• Because an educated and well-informed public is the only safe repository for the ultimate powers of self-government, we must closely study someone’s platform of beliefs, character, track record and stated intentions in order to vote our salt and light values.

• The need of the hour is a personal return to God via truth, conviction, compassion and common decency.

• Only love for God and each other can drive out hate, heal our land and raise the tide of blessings for all.

This is America! Our Founding Fathers understood that tyranny (the desire to rule over and control others) is inherit in the heart of sinful man, and developed checks and balances to limit government control over our citizens. You are free to choose what you believe and I am free to choose what I believe, and to freely proclaim it!

The ultimate hate speech is when someone tries to silence another over a difference of opinion. I’m simply a fellow citizen saved by the grace of God who has chosen to embrace an understanding of human nature, God-given rights and personal responsibility. This path lends itself toward a vision of a brighter future for us all.

God bless you and God bless the United States of America!

Sincerely,

Pastor Tim Cruse
