“And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.” John‬ ‭1‬:‭16‬ ‭

The Lord Jesus Christ came as “the fullness of the Godhead bodily” ‭‭(Colossians‬ ‭2‬:‭9‬). He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Because He arose victorious over death, Hell and the grave, we can now by faith receive the fullness of His forgiveness and grace.

Consider the meaning of “grace for grace.” The thought here is grace upon grace; super abounding, overflowing, gushing out grace; never an interruption in it. One writer described grace for grace like this, “It highlights the continuous, unending supply of God's unearned favor and spiritual blessings—one gift replacing or building upon another, without ever running out.” It is freely available to us. We simply appropriate it by going to the throne of grace and obtaining it through prayer.

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12‬:‭28‬ states, “…let us have grace…” This expression means to echo what we have been given. It is a connected extension of a repetition of a shared characteristic. The divine influence upon our lives is echoed through graciousness, gratitude, favour, liberality, etc. What we echo will come back to us.

“Lord, thank you for your overflowing, unending, inexhaustible grace. May we freely give to others of that which you have freely given to us. In Jesus name, Amen.”

A Rope of Hope

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭16‬
