Oftentimes God calls His servants to be living examples of what He is doing or about to do with His people. Here in this text, the people of God are about to suffer such overwhelming loss that they will be not be able to formally mourn. Ezekiel’s great loss of his wife will illustrate this and be even greater in that he will not be allowed to openly mourn either. Then, he must rise up the next day and do the work God has commanded him to do.
What a picture of situations we face in our lives! It may be a sudden setback, a puzzling unexpected turn of events, a deep, deep disappointment, a shocking discovery, or a grievous betrayal. Then, on top of that we have little to no time to mourn because we have other responsibilities we must attend to. Some seasons of life are just down-right gut wrenching.
Samuel was in a time of mourning in 1 Samuel 16:1. Note what God said to him, “And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Beth-lehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.” As we process and work through our grief, there comes a time when we must get back up and get going in the mission God has given us. Here there was one king down ~ but another king was coming.
No matter how many times we get down, we are never out. There is always a future with the people of God. We suffer setback and loss yes, but we get back up and get going again for the glory of God - “and at even my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was commanded.”
Whatever storm clouds are brooding over you today - spiritual warfare, physical suffering, family heartache, or grief over the condition of your nation - get back up tomorrow and get going for God. Keep going until Christ is formed in you and His mission is complete.

“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).
