“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations” (Jeremiah 1:5).

Pastor Robert Butz told me recently how God used the following statement in his life that he heard Pastor Tom Sexton say years ago, “It’s not God’s will for your life, it’s your life for God’s will. God’s will is laid out in His Word. When you give yourself to do God’s will, He will lay out your path before you.”

God did not create a purpose for us; He created us for a purpose. God’s purpose for Jeremiah was to:

  1. Go where He wanted him to go – v 7a
  2. Say what He wanted him to say – v 7b
  3. Do what He wanted him to do – v 10

He was called to go, say, and do what God had purposed for his life with confident faith, and without fear—as the Lord commanded: “Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD” (Jeremiah 1:8). We need courageous and compassionate servants of the Lord who will, like the weeping prophet Jeremiah, declare the truth of God’s Word with tears.

As we walk in the light of God’s Word, His personal and providential purpose becomes clear to us: “But the path of the just is as the shining light, That shineth more and more unto the perfect day” (Proverbs 4:18). And so many times, I have found His purpose sustaining my faith.

May our prayer today be, “Show me why you put me in this world Lord and what you want me to do. I will start by walking in the light of your Word and trust you to make my path clear - My Life for Your Purpose.”

Sincerely,

Pastor Tim Cruse

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully [to revere] and wonderfully [distinguished] made: marvellous are thy works [a poem]; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect [undeveloped - from egg to zygote to embryo to fetus to fully developed child to delivery]; and in thy book [a writing, story] all my members were written, which in continuance [from sunrise to sunset - your unique life story is unfolding from the beginning of life all the way through until the end of life on this earth] were fashioned [as the clay is formed by the Potter], when as yet there was none of them” (Psalm 139:14-16).
